I started my career back in the '80s on the doors in my home
town of Norwich. I then went on to both work the doors and
manage nightclubs in London, Manchester, Mansfield, Standish
and many other towns and cities across the UK, as well as in
Paris France and in Tanzania. During that time I attended a
six-week close protection training course run by former
members of the British Special Forces and, in between
working the clubs, ended up travelling the world looking
after the rich (but not so famous!) in places such as Russia
(where I lived), Bosnia (during the conflict), Africa, Asia
and Israel.
I published my first book Doing the Doors in 2004 which is
now a genre best-seller. I have gone on to write Confessions
of a Doorman, Maria's Story, Bouncers and Bodyguards and
Respect and Reputation (co-written with Charles Bronson).
For a while I also published and edited Protection News
Magazine for the close protection community, The Circuit, an
on-line magazine for the British Bodyguard Association, and
On The Doors - the only magazine in the world dedicated
exclusively to Door Supervision. I have also written a large
number of articles and editorials for both commercial and
business publications worldwide.
My sixth book titled The Mammoth Book of Hard Bastards, will
be published both the UK and the USA (under a different
title) in Feb 2011.
I am now working on two security industry publication;
Street Smart - Street Survival and Self Defence Techniques
for Door Supervisors, Security Guards and Close Protection
Officers and The 2011 International Directory of Close
Protection. Both will also be published in 2011. I am also
hoping to put together The Mammoth Book of Hells Angels for
publication 2012.
Enjoy the read, best wishes and above all ... stay safe !

DOING THE DOORS
By Robin Barratt
ISBN: 1-9038-5419-9
Published Feb. 2004My autobiography - written
with pace, humour and unflinching honesty, Doing
the Doors is a riveting insight into the life of
a modern-day doorman: the gangs, the drugs, the
girls, and the clubs. I began my door career
cleaning up bikers' pubs in Norwich before being
exposed by The Times newspaper for a
steroid-dealing ring. I moved to London, worked with
Rhino from TV's Gladiators before training to be a
bodyguard and going to Thailand to work on a Michael
Jackson tour. On the doors in Manchester, I
encountered some of the most violent gangs in the
country, experiences I put to good use working in
trouble-spots including Bosnia (where my friend was
shot dead next to me), Croatia, Israel, Nigeria and
Russia. Doing The Doors is an inside account
of how the door trade works in the UK and a
no-holds-barred insight into a twilight world.

MARIA'S STORY
By Robin and Inna Barratt
ISBN: 978-0954814311
Published April 2005The true story of Maria who
lost her legs when she was five years old, falling
between a train and the platform. At fifteen years
old she was kidnapped by a group of gypsies and
smuggled to Moscow where she was forced to beg. She
was forced into a gypsy marriage, repeatedly raped,
and eventually fell pregnant. She finally managed to
escape to the outskirts of Moscow, where she gave
birth to a baby boy. In 2003, my wife and I met
Maria and started an appeal to help her. Eventually
we raised enough money to provide her with
prosthetic legs and to change her life around.

CONFESSIONS OF A DOORMAN
By Robin Barratt
ISBN: 978-0954814328
Published June 2006Following on from the success
of Doing the Doors, I recall more
hard-hitting stories from my frequently violent life
on nightclub doors around the UK, as well as
recording a few incredible and often hilarious tales
from my time as a bodyguard in France, Russia and
The Ukraine. After being sent to clean up one of the
most famous nightclubs in Paris, I found myself
hanging out with a top Hollywood actor. In the
Ukraine I came up against corrupt officials and in
Russia I worked alongside ex-Russian Special Forces.
Confessions of a Doorman starts by
chronicling my series of heart attacks at the age of
just 43.

RESPECT AND REPUTATION - On The
Doors, In Prison And In Life
By Robin Barratt with Charlie Bronson
ISBN: 978-1906358815
Published June 2010 - HARDBACKIn this
increasingly violent and troubled world, people
demand to be respected. But what is exactly is
respect? Is it learned or earned? How do you go from
being a 'nobody' to a 'somebody'? How do you respect
others and equally how can you get other people to
respect you? Can you only be truly respected if you
have a reputation? In this fascinating book, Barratt
and Bronson examine in detail respect and reputation
including how to behave in prison, how to treat
other prisoners, how to be a great door supervisor,
when to show respect, how to gain the respect of
others and ultimately how to develop an awesome
reputation both in prison, on the doors and in life
generally. With lots of real life anecdotes as well
as contributions from many other hard men (and a few
women), this gripping book takes its reader into the
psychology of a world rarely explored.
